The Smoke House

Currently in progress, Smoke House is envisioned as the final and most introspective work in Triptych of Time. Where Swing House centers (and looped) movement though history and relationships, and Stair House reframes perception through an Escher-like model, Smoke House turns inward—toward breath, ephemerality, and the body’s relationship to atmosphere.

Still emerging from the architectural bones of its site, the work meditates on time not as a series of moments, but as something ambient and elemental, like smoke. It will be the most sensorial of the three homes, a culmination of de Jong’s evolving exploration of how architecture holds memory, how space remembers the body, and how the act of dwelling can become both performance and palimpsest.

The final Triptych, Smoke House turns inward toward breath, atmosphere, and time as something ambient, elemental, and remembered in architecture.
